Agincourt

The board files this area as Agincourt South-Malvern West.

A postwar Scarborough suburb that became one of the most diverse communities in the country, with a GO station and a main street of its own.

What it is like

Detached and semi-detached houses from the 1950s through the 1970s on wide lots, with apartment towers along Sheppard Avenue East and newer townhouse infill throughout. The original bungalows are steadily being replaced or substantially enlarged, so lot size and frontage drive price more than the existing building does on many streets. The area has among the highest proportions of residents born outside Canada anywhere in the country, and the retail reflects that directly.

Getting around

Agincourt GO on the Stouffville line runs to Union, and the line has been progressively improved toward all-day two-way service. Sheppard Avenue East and Kennedy Road carry frequent bus routes connecting to Line 2 at Kennedy station and Line 4 at Don Mills. Highway 401 runs along the southern edge.

Things to see and do

Agincourt Recreation Centre and the branch library sit together on Glen Watford Drive. The Agincourt Mall site is being redeveloped into a mixed-use community. Milliken Park and the Highland Creek ravine system provide the green space, and the Scarborough Bluffs are a twenty-minute drive south.

Shops, restaurants and work

Sheppard Avenue East between Midland and Brimley is the commercial spine, with one of the largest concentrations of Chinese and South Asian retail and restaurants in the region — Dragon Centre’s successors, the plazas along Glen Watford, and the malls at Kennedy and Sheppard. Employment is spread across the 401 corridor and downtown.
