What it is like
Mimico contains two quite different housing markets. Humber Bay Shores, built on filled land at the water’s edge since the 2000s, is almost entirely condominium and is where most of the area’s sales volume comes from. Inland, old Mimico is a village of modest detached and semi-detached houses on small lots, much of it pre-war, with laneways and a genuine main street.
Getting around
Mimico GO on the Lakeshore West line reaches Union in about fifteen minutes. The 501 Queen streetcar terminates at Long Branch to the west, and the 66 Prince Edward and 76 Royal York buses connect north to Line 2 at Royal York station. The Gardiner Expressway is immediately north, which is both the convenience and the drawback.
Things to see and do
Humber Bay Park East and West give several kilometres of shoreline, a butterfly habitat and the best skyline view in the city from the Humber Bay Arch Bridge. The Martin Goodman Trail runs the whole waterfront. Mimico Waterfront Park connects the older village to the lake by a boardwalk built along the shore.
Shops, restaurants and work
Lake Shore Boulevard West is the commercial street for both halves, with a cluster of newer restaurants and cafés serving the Humber Bay towers and older, smaller storefronts through Mimico village. Royal York Road adds a second strip to the north.
