What it is like
Laid out in the 1950s on a deliberately curvilinear plan, with generous lots and a tree canopy that is now seventy years old. The original bungalows and side-splits are steadily being replaced by much larger custom houses, so the street-to-street variation in both size and vintage is wide. Around Sheppard and Bayview the form changes completely into condominium towers, which is where most of the area’s listing volume sits.
Getting around
Bayview station sits at the corner of Sheppard and Bayview on Line 4, three stops from Sheppard-Yonge and the Line 1 interchange, with a direct connection into the Bayview Village shopping centre. Oriole GO on the Richmond Hill line is beside it. Highway 401 is a few minutes south and the Don Valley Parkway is close, which is the combination that makes the area work for drivers as well.
Things to see and do
Bayview Village Park and the East Don Parkland run along the ravine on the eastern side, with trails connecting north and south through the valley. The shopping centre is the local landmark, deliberately positioned at the upper end of the market. Toronto’s largest concentration of ravine trail is within walking distance, which is the thing residents mention first.
Shops, restaurants and work
Bayview Village shopping centre anchors everyday and higher-end retail, with the Sheppard and Bayview intersection carrying banking, groceries and restaurants. Employment is largely elsewhere — the North York Centre office cluster is three subway stops west, and the 401 puts most of the region within reach.
